You're right, it's not an original thought. Why? Because it offers nothing but sophistry. "greater vigilience for signs of uninteded externalities"? Excuse me? And please, explain in practical terms what "a deeper awareness of relationships between co-workers, etc" actually means to a farmer. Instead of proposing steps toward alternative solutions, your comments run aground upon the very same rocks of those cooped up in a library for large parts of their lives. Agriculture has never been the end-stage or source of happiness, sustainable development, or well-being. In West Bengal,agriculture has been a changing concept through the years, whether you count the modified seeds used to sustain the green revolution, or the land redistribution used to gain votes. Change is not inherently bad. Fear, does, as your post demonstrates, breed inaction.
